Obsidian Strategic has won our appeal against the refusal of Hart District Council for a major new strategic Suitable Alternative Natural Green Space (‘SANG’) near Eversley Cross in Hampshire. The SANG measuring 16 hectares complete with car park for 16 cars was approved by the Planning Inspectorate on 17th October 2021.
The Planning Inspectorate agreed with our case that the SANG was a high quality scheme, designed with the help of Dr Peter Shepherd, and would deliver a valuable mitigation to protect the nearby Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area. Our proposals, which will result in a significant increase in biodiversity, were also welcomed by Natural England.
The 16 hectare SANG will also help housing developers with 4KM of the SANG (in both Hart District and Woking) to deliver new housing whilst properly mitigating the impacts of new residents on the SPA.
The planning application and subsequent appeal was led by Obsidian’s own in-house planning team with assistance from a range of experts.
